Adult Services
Screening
The Adult and Youth Screening Tools identify initial indicators of an individual’s mental health needs. The Adult Screening Tool and the Youth Screening Tool each include a scoring methodology, including any identified psychiatric emergency. Based on their screening score the individual is referred to the appropriate Medi-Cal Mental Health delivery system (i.e., either the MCP or the MHP) for a clinical assessment and medically necessary services.
The initial service appointment at the DMC‑ODS SUD clinic focuses on clarifying the member’s treatment needs and identifying possible substance use problems using the National Institute on Drug Abuse Drug Tobacco, Alcohol, Prescription medications, and other Substance (TAPS) Screening Tool. The TAPS screening tool is used for screening adult SUD members, and the Screening to Brief Intervention for Adolescents tool is used for screening adolescent members. Members are admitted to SUD services upon screening and scheduled for an ASAM assessment with a Licensed Practitioner of the Healing Arts (LPHA). Initial services include case management, individual and group outpatient counseling, and MAT.
